Thailand is one of the most forgiving destinations to travel in and one of the easiest to under-prepare for. Heat, humidity and the rainy season shape almost every packing decision, and health preparation deserves more attention than most trips.

Entry and documents
Many nationalities can enter without a visa for short stays, but the rules differ by passport and change periodically — confirm yours on the official source below rather than relying on a blog post, including this one.
Some travellers are asked to show onward travel and proof of accommodation. Have both saved offline before you fly.
What it costs
Thailand covers an unusually wide price range: street food and local transport are inexpensive, while islands and resort areas can cost as much as Europe. Your budget depends far more on where you go and how you travel than on the country itself.
Cash still matters for markets, small vendors and rural areas. Check what your bank charges for foreign ATM withdrawals before you rely on cards.
Weather, packing and health
It is hot and humid year-round, with a pronounced rainy season. Pack light, quick-drying clothing rather than heavy fabrics, and expect to want more changes of top than you would in a cooler climate.
Bring good sun protection, insect repellent, rehydration salts and any prescription medicine in its original packaging with a copy of the prescription. Speak to a travel clinic about recommended vaccinations well before departure.
Cover for shoulders and knees is required to enter temples — worth packing rather than buying at the gate.
Getting online and getting around
Data is cheap and coverage is good. An eSIM sorted before departure means maps, ride-hailing and translation work immediately, which matters most in exactly the first hour when you are tired and unfamiliar.
Agree taxi fares or use a metered or app-based ride, and screenshot your accommodation address in Thai script.
